Description: The work included the demolition and removal of specified segments of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (AT&SF) Railroad Bridge located in the vicinity of the Santa Fe Trestle Trail and Moore Park, Dallas, TX. The three sections demolished were located at both the left bank side and right bank side of the Trinity River.
The project required Abatement of Regulated Asbestos Containing Material (RACM) on portions of the AT&SF Bridges followed by demolition and removal of the specified bridge segments, while maintaining the Santa Fe Trestle Trail features.
Demolition and removal activities are required on both the left bank side and right bank side of the floodway. On the left bank side of the floodway, demolition and removal was required for 900 linear feet of a 1938 wooden trestle ballast-deck bridge and approximately 100 linear feet of wooden trestle open deck bridge. On the right bank side of the floodway, demolition and removal was required for approximately 660 linear feet of concrete ballast-deck bridge; and approximately 65 linear feet steel truss clear span bridge.
The specified wooden trestle, concrete and steel portions of the bridge were removed as part of this project and completed over three months early. All piers were removed to one to five feet below existing grade. After removal, areas were graded and grass reestablished. Over 85% of the demolished material was repurposed or recycled.
